In the early hours of the morning, Russian forces launched a drone attack on the Izmail district in Ukraine's Odessa region, causing significant damage to critical infrastructure.
This was reported by the head of Odesa Military Regional Administration, Oleh Kiper.
Despite the active efforts of Ukrainian air defense units, one of the drones struck a gas facility, sparking a fire. A powerful fire broke out in the border village of Orlivka in Ukraine’s Izmail district following a Russian drone strike, according to footage circulating online. The blaze was so intense that it was reportedly visible from neighboring Romania. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze by 07:25. However, the attack resulted in the destruction of industrial equipment and damage to a major gas pipeline.
Due to the pipeline damage, gas supply has been temporarily cut off for approximately 2,500 households in the area. Emergency crews are currently working to safely release gas from the system and carry out repairs. All relevant services are on site addressing the aftermath of the strike.
Law enforcement officers are also present, documenting evidence of yet another war crime committed by Russia against Ukraine’s civilian population.The incident is part of an ongoing wave of Russian drone strikes targeting Ukraine’s southern infrastructure, particularly in Odessa region.
The local military administration confirmed that, despite the scale of the attack, there were no casualties.
An air raid alert was announced in Tulcea County, Romania, located on the Danube River, following a Russian air attack targeting the Odessa region. The attack was reportedly visible from Moldovan territory as well.
