State Statistics Service: Annual inflation drops to 8.2%

Consumer prices in Ukraine increased by 0.9% in May compared to the previous month, while annual inflation slowed to 8.2%, down from 8.6% recorded in April.

This was reported by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

“Inflation in the consumer market in May 2026 compared with April amounted to 0.9%, and compared with May 2025, 8.2%. Core inflation in May 2026 compared with April was 0.7%, and compared with May 2025, 7.9%,” the statement said.

According to the State Statistics Service, prices for food products and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 1.2% in May. The largest increase was recorded for fruit, which became 11.1% more expensive. Prices also rose by 6.4–1.2% for processed grain products, bread, sunflower oil, pasta, fish and fish products, non-alcoholic beverages, beef, and sugar.

At the same time, egg prices fell by 15.3%, while vegetables, milk, pork, butter, and lard became 1.7–0.2% cheaper.

Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 1.9%, including a 2.1% rise in tobacco prices and a 1.6% increase in alcohol prices.

Clothing and footwear became 1.8% cheaper overall, with footwear prices declining by 2.0% and clothing prices by 1.6%.

Transport prices increased by 0.7%, mainly due to a 2.7% rise in fares for road passenger transport, as well as a 0.6% increase in fuel and lubricant prices.
