The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed its first agreement with European export credit agencies to provide financial guarantees for companies doing business with Ukraine. The demand for such guarantees has already reached €400 million.

EIB President Nadia Calviño announced this in Brussels ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council (Development).

"I would like to recall that we signed the first agreement with export credit institutions across the EU. So European companies can now approach their national export credit agencies to gain access to European guarantees when doing business with Ukraine. These export guarantee services, which we launched with a €300 million budget, have already exceeded expectations. The EIB has received requests from national export credit agencies totaling around €400 million," said Calviño.

She emphasized that the EIB supports European priorities and delivers funds where they are most needed. In particular, the EIB remains one of Ukraine’s most important financial partners.

"We have mobilized €3 billion in financial support for Ukraine and have now reached a high pace in implementing financial projects in the country. This means we are currently presenting new projects every two weeks — including transport, energy, infrastructure, hospitals, schools, kindergartens, universities, water supply infrastructure, local transport, and municipal services across the country. We are also supporting the private sector," Calviño said.

She stressed that in these efforts, the EIB is working closely with Ukrainian authorities at both the national and municipal levels.

"We will continue to play an important role, because the EIB not only strongly supports Ukraine now — we are also the most experienced partner when it comes to EU accession. We invest and provide technical assistance to countries in the process of joining the EU, and we will play a very important role with Ukraine as it reunites with the European family," the EIB president concluded.
