Before the start of the Ukraine–Nordic-Baltic Summit in Tallinn, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo.
“We are grateful for your support, the support of your team, and the entire Finnish people. Above all, for all the military aid packages—they are making a significant difference,” the President said.
Volodymyr Zelensky and Petteri Orpo discussed ongoing efforts in Europe to develop anti-ballistic missile defense capabilities. The President briefed the Finnish Prime Minister on current initiatives being pursued with international partners.
They also discussed the work being carried out by their respective teams to prepare an agreement under the Drone Deal framework. Ukraine submitted the relevant proposal to the Finnish government in May.
The Head of State outlined Ukraine’s needs for strengthening air defense and thanked Finland for its contributions to the PURL programme. Ukraine is counting on continued support and appreciates Finland’s readiness to make further contributions.
The discussion also covered regional security challenges and possible ways to counter the threats that Russia poses to European countries.
Particular attention was devoted to diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace. President Zelensky briefed Prime Minister Orpo on ongoing negotiations and communication with the U.S. side and European leaders.
Petteri Orpo reaffirmed Finland’s support for Ukraine, including its path toward membership in the European Union. He emphasized that Finland supports the opening of all six EU accession negotiation clusters and is ready to contribute to that process.
The Finnish Prime Minister also provided an update on the work of the Shelter Coalition, including partner participation, financial contributions, and plans for its further implementation.
