"On Monday, Ukraine will open the border crossing point 'Ugrinov – Dolgobichiv' for empty trucks heading to Poland," announced the Head of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Alexander Kurbakov, on his Facebook page on Sunday.
"This is a shared border crossing point that usually operated only for passenger vehicles and buses. In collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland, Lublin Voivodeship, and with the support of the European Commission (DG MOVE), we managed to launch a lane for empty trucks weighing 7.5 tons and above," the minister wrote.
He noted that starting from December 4, empty trucks, including tankers, will begin moving through this checkpoint. Initially, it will operate in a trial mode, and there will be no need to register in the queue.
"The capacity will be more than 100 trucks per day," Kurbakov added.
The countries reached agreements on Friday at a meeting in Warsaw to alleviate tensions at the border, which had persisted for almost a month. Polish carriers protested against the uncontrolled entry of Ukrainian drivers into the European Union and blocked four border exits. By the end of November, nearly three thousand trucks had accumulated at the Ukrainian-Polish border.
