The initiative by some countries to establish a ceasefire with the prospect of starting peace negotiations means that temporarily occupied territories would remain under Russian control, giving Russia time to resume attacks with renewed strength, according to Ukraine's ambassador to Turkey, Vasyl Bodnar, in an interview with Euronews in Turkey.
"Many countries have proposed the idea of a ceasefire, but no one considers what it means," Bodnar emphasized.
According to him, a ceasefire means that "25 percent of Ukraine's territory remains under Russian control," and Russia "gains time to strengthen its forces, enhance its capabilities, and renew attacks on Ukraine."
The Ukrainian ambassador to Turkey stressed that countering the Russian occupation primarily involves defending Ukraine's territorial integrity within the framework of international law.
"Any other proposal for resolution should not be considered, and for this reason, we have rejected it," the diplomat added.
He also emphasized that Ukraine's vision of establishing peace involves the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territories.
During the conversation, the diplomat highlighted the importance of Ukraine joining NATO to ensure its future security, as well as joining the European Union.
