In the infrastructure of the Pivdennyi port (Odessa region), a spill of vegetable oil into the water was recorded following the latest large-scale enemy attacks. The oil is an organic substance and is subject to natural biological decomposition, according to a statement from the Ukrainian Ports Authority.

“The first two days after the attack, the port was under continuous shelling. As a result, containment work could only be carried out partially — exclusively during breaks between air raid alerts and in compliance with safety rules for personnel,” the Ukrainian Ports Authority statement said on its Telegram channel.

It was reported that the water area was gradually blocked with booms, which were fully installed once the security situation stabilized.

The port administration added that special vessels for collecting pollutants were involved in the response.

“Ukrainian Ports Authority, together with all relevant services, is taking all possible measures to contain and prevent further spread of the contamination, taking into account current safety and weather conditions,” the statement emphasized.

As previously reported, as a result of enemy strikes on the night of December 21–22, about 30 containers with flour and vegetable oil caught fire at Pivdennyi port, and the cleanup operations have been ongoing.
