Kazakhstan has sharply tightened the rules for staying in the country for Russian citizens - now at most 90 days in six months. The government of Kazakhstan published the corresponding decree.
Starting January 27, citizens of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (Russia, Belarus, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan) will not be allowed to stay in Kazakhstan for more than 90 days during any period of 180 days. In case of violation, the foreigner will not be allowed into the country on the next visit.
This restriction does not apply to those who have issued a temporary residence permit.
It should be noted that earlier, the only restriction for Russians and citizens of other EurAsEC countries in Kazakhstan was the requirement to renew the period of legal stay in the country at least once every three months. To do this, it was enough to cross the border and immediately return back. This method is called "visaran".
Kazakhstan is formally one of the closest military allies and economic partners of the Russian Federation. It is a member of Russia's "analog of NATO" - the CSTO and the Eurasian Economic Union.
However, Kazakhstan immediately refused to participate in the war against Ukraine and declared neutrality. Kazakhstan also refused to recognize the "independence" of pseudo-entities created by Russia on the territory of the Russian Federation and their subsequent annexation.
