Germany recently delivered 30 missiles for the Patriot system to Ukraine and is preparing additional air defense systems, armored vehicles, drones, and other necessary equipment.
This was announced by the acting Minister of Defense of Germany, Boris Pistorius, ahead of the meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein format).
He reminded that Germany is allocating about 7 billion euros to support Ukraine this year, of which 3 billion have recently been approved by the Bundestag, as well as 8 billion more by 2029.
"That means, at the moment, a total of over 11 billion euros additionally. This is quite a significant amount. Today, I can also explain more specifically why this is needed. First and foremost, this is an increasingly important area of air defense," said Pistorius.
According to him, this includes 4 additional IRIS-T systems plus 300 guided missiles; 120 MANPADS (portable air defense systems); 300 reconnaissance drones; 25 Marder infantry fighting vehicles; 15 Leopard tanks; 14 artillery systems; 100 surveillance radars; 100,000 artillery shells, and more.
Pistorius informed that in recent days, the German Bundeswehr found a way to deliver 30 additional guided missiles for the Patriot systems from its own stock, "which have already been delivered to Ukraine."
"We want to contribute to making sure that Kryvyi Rih doesn't repeat itself," he emphasized.
In addition to "short-term measures," Berlin plans also medium- and long-term steps. Agreements are being made for the supply of additional IRIS-T systems in the coming years. It has also been promised to provide 1,100 additional ground surveillance radars.
The 27th meeting of the Ramstein format is taking place in Brussels on April 11, chaired by the defense ministers of the United Kingdom and Germany.
