Ukraine has brought home a 12-year-old boy who was unlawfully deported by the Russians during the full-scale invasion. This information was announced by the Human Rights Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada, Dmytro Lubinets.
"The child has been on temporarily occupied Ukrainian territory from the first days of the full-scale war and later in the Russian Federation. The boy came to his father in the Luhansk region for three days on the eve of the Russian invasion, but due to the Russian occupation, he stayed there for about 18 months! And another four months - on the territory of Russia!" the statement said.
It is noted that the boy even attended a Russian school.
The child's mother, who is a servicewoman in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, could not independently retrieve her son due to her military duties. Therefore, she sought help in bringing her son back.
"The Ombudsman's Office worked out the path of return, taking care of logistical, security, and other aspects. It was not easy, but the result was worth it: the boy is home!" added the statement.
In the conditions of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation, there is a mass deportation of Ukrainian children from the occupied territories of Ukraine. They are taken to the occupied Crimea, Russia, or Belarus, allegedly for rehabilitation or vacation in camps.
