Latvian law enforcement authorities arrested a Russian citizen last month, suspecting him of surveilling military facilities and transmitting classified information.
The Latvian Security Service reported this, as cited by Delfi.
Criminal proceedings against the Russian citizen were initiated on December 18 for the illegal collection and transmission of classified information to foreign intelligence.
"The information obtained during the investigation indicates that the Russian citizen collected and transmitted information about critical infrastructure and military facilities in Latvia to Russian special services," the statement said.
According to the Latvian Security Service, the man provided various types of support to Russian special services in activities directed against Latvia.
Criminal procedural actions were carried out at five locations related to the suspect, and a significant amount of documents and information carriers were seized during searches. Arrest has been applied as a preventive measure against the suspect.
