Italy will provide Ukraine with the SAMP/T air defense system as part of the ninth military aid package. The full content of the package remains classified.
This announcement was made by the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, as reported by Sky TG24.
During hearings before the committees on foreign affairs of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and Senate, Tajani was asked whether the new military aid package to Ukraine would include long-range missiles.
"It (the package) will be presented to the parliamentary committee for security oversight in Italy, there is confidentiality," responded the Foreign Minister.
Tajani agreed with Italy's Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, that if the secrecy surrounding military aid to Ukraine, introduced by the previous government, is lifted, there would be fewer problematic issues, particularly regarding the cost of the assistance provided.
"The only thing known is that an SAMP/T defense battery will be sent to protect the skies over Ukraine," added the minister.
