Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale aggression, 596 children have been killed in Ukraine, and 1,723 have been injured. This was reported by Emir Abdullayev, a prosecutor from the Office of the Prosecutor General, during a roundtable discussion on "Forming State Policy on the Protection of Children's Rights and Internally Displaced Persons in the War."
"Since the full-scale invasion (of Russia), we have already lost 596 children, and 1,723 children have been injured. There are 1,944 children who are missing. These are very significant numbers across the country. Additionally, more than 19,540 children are considered deported or temporarily displaced," Abdullayev said.
According to the prosecutor, in the challenging conditions of war, investigating crimes against children is impossible without close cooperation between various state structures, law enforcement agencies, NGOs, and international partners.
"Effective justice is possible only through close interagency cooperation involving international partners and adherence to the best international standards," said the representative of the Prosecutor General's Office.
Abdullayev emphasized the need for coordination between law enforcement agencies, analysts, psychologists, social workers, and international experts during investigations to ensure the protection of children's rights and freedoms.
"Thanks to such coordination, we can take a comprehensive approach to each case, create an effective investigation strategy, and support the children affected. Protecting children's rights is our shared responsibility," he said.
