The Security Service of Ukraine's counterintelligence detained another informant of Russian special services. This individual was gathering intelligence on the locations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defense units in the Mykolaiv region. Her main tasks included identifying and transmitting possible geolocations of the command and combat units of the Marine Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The informant conducted reconnaissance by navigating the area and covertly recording objects of Ukrainian forces. Additionally, she utilized acquaintances to extract "necessary" information under the guise of confidential conversations.
The obtained information was sent to the Russian forces through an anonymous chat on a popular messenger platform. The Security Service of Ukraine exposed the criminal activities of the informant at an early stage. Subsequently, Ukrainian law enforcement documented all her criminal actions and detained her while attempting to perform a new reconnaissance task.
The timely exposure allowed informing the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, leading to the adjustment of temporary dislocations and movements of Ukrainian troops.
The detained individual is reported to be a local resident and an ideological supporter of Russian aggression. She made posts on social networks supporting the Russian forces and the annexation of part of Ukraine's territory after the full-scale invasion by Russia. This drew the attention of Russian special services, who remotely engaged her in cooperation.
During the search, the Security Service seized the mobile phone she used for reconnaissance and subversive activities in favor of Russia.
The suspect has been informed of the charges under Article 114-2 Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement or location of the Ukrainian Armed Forces). She is currently in custody, facing up to 8 years in prison.
