American actor and director Misha Collins celebrated his 49th birthday on August 20. In honor of his birthday, he called for donations for armored vehicles for demining in Ukraine. The actor himself announced this, as well as the fundraising platform United24.
"It happens to be my birthday. Usually I try not to make a thing about it, but I realized that I do want something for my birthday... I would love it if you would contribute to this de-mining effort to help save Ukrainian civilians. It's a pressing and super impactful way to spend a few dollars. Donate for Ukraine to make me happy for my birthday?" Misha Collins wrote on Instagram.
The fundraising goal is $685,000. As of 1:20 PM on August 21, there have already been 3964 donations totaling $200,536. The specialized armored vehicles will aid in humanitarian demining efforts in Ukraine. These vehicles are designed to transport unexploded mines and improvised explosive devices for further neutralization.
Collins has ties to Ukraine: his father's lineage comes from the eastern part of Ukraine and Kyiv region. Collins studied Ukrainian politics and history in college, visited Ukraine several times, and actively supports it since the beginning of the Russian invasion. On the anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion, he recorded a video message in Ukrainian for United24 and became an ambassador for the platform. Misha Collins visited Kyiv and met with President Zelensky in May 2023. He later visited the town of Irpin, which had been damaged by the Russians, and witnessed the work of deminers in Chernihiv region.
