The Russian General Prosecutor’s Office has recognized the international human rights organization Amnesty International as "undesirable."
This was reported by Nastoyashchee Vremya.
The Russian agency claims that the organization’s London headquarters is a "center for preparing global Russophobic projects funded by Ukraine’s accomplices." Specifically, according to the Russian prosecutor’s version, members of Amnesty International support "extremist" organizations and finance the activities of "foreign agents."
As reported, Amnesty International is an international non-governmental organization founded in the United Kingdom in 1961. According to its website, its work is based on research and analysis of human rights issues, grassroots activism, international solidarity campaigns, as well as cooperation with governments and civil society to defend human rights.
In March 2025, Amnesty International presented a report titled “Deafening Silence. Violent disappearances, incommunicado detention, and torture of Ukrainian prisoners by Russia.”
The document about the treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war and detained civilians states that Russian authorities subjected them to torture, prolonged detention without contact with the outside world, and other types of inhumane treatment.
Amnesty International believes that such treatment amounts to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
