The personnel shortage, which has become one of the main problems of the Russian economy since the start of the war against Ukraine, has begun to affect the information security of companies. According to a survey by MTS RED, whose results are published by Forbes, 62% of Russian enterprises cannot protect themselves from cyberattacks due to a lack of relevant specialists. Additionally, 32% of companies stated that their specialized staff lacked the time to solve problems caused by hacker attacks.

This was reported by The Moscow Times.

In addition to the shortage of personnel, the departure of Western cybersecurity developers from Russia is also affecting the situation. For 24% of companies, import substitution is complicated by a lack of quality domestic information security systems, while 17% face difficulties due to the inability to renew licenses and the lack of technical support from foreign vendors. Moreover, 14% of companies complained about a lack of financial resources to defend against cyberattacks.

According to the survey, every fourth company in Russia faced complex attacks in 2023. About 17% of enterprises reported being targeted, and 8% reported attacks through contractors. Phishing and social engineering (45%) were the most common cyber threats faced by companies in 2023, followed by DDoS attacks (40%).

According to a survey by Ventra company in 2022, 31% of Russian IT specialists have already relocated to another country or planned to do so.
