The Security Service prevented a Russian sabotage operation at a strategically important Ukrzaliznytsia facility.

As a result of the special operation in the Poltava region, two FSB agents were caught "red-handed". The criminals attempted to detonate a section of the railway line connecting central and eastern regions of Ukraine. To carry out the sabotage, they planted an improvised explosive device near the railway track and the power supply system of the rolling stock. Subsequently, the perpetrators planned to activate the explosive device using a remote control.

However, the suspects were apprehended by the SSU operatives directly at the scene before they could carry out their plan. In case of a detonation, the FSB agents hoped to disrupt the logistical routes for supplying weapons, ammunition, and fuel to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The detained individuals had their mobile phones seized, which they used to coordinate their criminal actions with their Russian handler, an employee of the 5th Department of the FSB. The identity of this individual has already been established by the Security Service. It was this handler who tasked the agents with carrying out sabotage on the railway during the mass air attacks by Russian forces on critical infrastructure objects in Ukraine on March 21-22 of this year.

According to the investigation, the hostile accomplices turned out to be residents of the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions.

Currently, the SSU investigators have informed both detainees of their suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 113 (sabotage committed in conditions of martial law by prior conspiracy of a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The perpetrators are in custody and face life imprisonment.
